Insurance:

I am not contracted with any insurance companies but you have the option to submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Online therapy is usually covered by your insurance if you have out-of-network benefits. Marital or couple therapy is sometimes covered, but often times, not. You can check with your carrier to make sure. I provide you with a superbill each month that you may submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. It's possible that your insurance may not reimburse the full amount that you paid for the service, so this is another question to ask them.

Perhaps the question is not "Can you bill my insurance?" but rather, "Should you bill my insurance?"

Four reasons why I do not bill insurance:

Reason #1)      Mental Health Diagnosis

In order to bill your insurance, I have to label you with a mental health disorder. Unfortunately, there is still a stigma attached to mental health and since a lot of my clients are high profile, they do not want a diagnosis attached to them.

Reason #2)  Pre-approvals and visit limits

Mental health insurance coverage has come a long way in recent years but it still has a ways to go. Some companies still limit the number of visits you can receive in a set time period or require pre-approval for services. What a hassle!

Reason #3)    Limits to privacy

Your insurance company has the right to audit your file to access whether you are making satisfactory progress in therapy. This means that they have access to more than just your diagnosis. Progress notes frequently have direct quotes from you and situational information that you may want to keep private.

Reason #4)   Unforeseen Repercussions

Your mental health diagnosis may keep you from enjoying certain privileges in the future depending on future laws and restrictions.  For example: increased insurance rates, denied life insurance coverage, gun ownership, sensitive careers like law enforcement, obtaining government security clearance, or holding political office.

My Approach

It’s deep therapy with Woo Woo thrown in.

And it works.

My approach is to take a look at the unquantifiable parts of your existence and bring them to the forefront so that you can pay attention to them.

This leads to a greater understanding of the “self.” Which in turn leads to you easing your struggle and living a more purposeful life; one that you make conscious decisions about, furthering your soul’s growth.

"Transpersonal therapy takes a more holistic approach, addressing mental, physical, social, emotional, creative, and intellectual needs, with an emphasis on the role of a healthy spirit in healing. …. With the therapist’s guidance, you will find, build, and expand on your inner strengths and resources to create a more balanced life and a healthier state of mind."

What the heck does that mean?

Well, let’s break it down.

Metaphysics

The term “Metaphysics” is the combination of two words; Meta & Physics.

Physics is the branch of science dealing with the matter and its motion,

Meta (from the Greek) means “beyond, over or before something.”

Metaphysics therefore applies to all the knowledge that is beyond the understanding of matter and motion.

It’s the things you can’t see, touch, or measure. The mystical. The mysterious. Things beyond our normal everyday, rat-race-social-media-on-a-schedule experiences.

Online therapy

This one is much easier to define.

Online simply means providing psychotherapy through electronic means – by text, email, or most commonly, videoconferencing.

Therapy refers to the type of helping I most closely align with.

For me, it's Transpersonal Psychology. No therapist strictly adheres to one way of practicing therapy. Rather, we pick the one that most closely aligns with us - and YOU. The important thing to remember is that it's more of a framework than a set of rules.

I meet you where you are and together we figure out what will work best for you.

*I am licensed in the states of Oregon & California and therefore can only conduct therapy with people who are in those states. If you are in another state or country, please reach out and I will try to connect you with someone in your area.
